Client Spotlight: Supporting Parents With PCIT

This is an interview with a real parent who used Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) at the Center for Effective Therapy to help themself better communicate with their child.

Can you briefly describe what life was like for your family before receiving outpatient treatment?

Life prior to coaching was difficult at times, especially in the mornings and evenings. We were more stressed and frustrated and our child had difficulty listening and liked to be defiant.

What made you want to contact The Baker Center?

We were recommended to check out PCIT by our pediatrician

Do you have anything you would like to share about your overall experience with the Center for Effective Therapy?

Amazing experience; all the clinicians we worked with went above and beyond. Our therapist was an amazing, flexible, caring clinician, and listened to everyone, problem solved, and changed our lives. Very welcoming people who love what they do and are very skilled at it.

How did you feel about our parent focused approach (Parent-Child Interaction therapy) and how did your clinician make you as a parent feel seen and heard?

Love this approach and will recommend it to everyone I know. We even adapted it for our daughter. Our clinician always listened to us, she was incredible- even taking calls outside of her work hours. She coached and worked with us, and made us feel very heard and encouraged.

What’s one thing you would share with parents that are considering taking the first steps to start therapy?

Your life really will be transformed. Go for it!

How is life different now vs. before treatment?

We have copying mechanisms for difficult situations and transitions, and skills that can be applied to siblings! PCIT has been a game changer.
