Client Spotlight: Depression & Anxiety Meeting Their MATCH

The following is an interview with a real client at the Center for Effective Therapy who utilized The Modular Approach to Therapy for Children (MATCH) to support their child struggling with anxiety and depression.

Can you briefly describe what life was like for your family before receiving treatment?

Before my child started coming to The Baker Center, he was suffering from depression and anxiety, and school was very hard. His depression was out of control to the point where we couldn't safely manage him. He was unable to make eye contact with people and was so anxious. He was a shell of himself before he started treatment.

Do you have anything you would like to share about your overall experience with the Center for Effective Therapy?

Nicole was amazing from day one. She did his initial assessment and was able to stay on as his clinician. She was personable and he was comfortable with her. It is hard for him to open up to anyone, so the fact that she was able to get him to share was huge. She really got through to him, which was the biggest issue previously.

How did your clinician make you as a parent feel seen and heard?

Nicole did bi-weekly check-ins for the first few months to make sure I understood what was going on with my child to enforce the work she was doing with him and was able to hold my hand through the process. She also communicated with his school, which was very helpful.

How is life different now vs. before treatment for your family?

He is able to be a person now. He can hold conversations. He has some anxiety in public and initiating certain things, but the change is night and day. He has a chance at having a meaningful life now.
