Client Spotlight: Real Results, Delivered Virtually

Many parents have understandable concerns about whether telehealth can be as effective as in‑person therapy. While every child, teen, and family has unique needs, telehealth has been shown to be just as effective as in‑person care for many types of mental health treatment. It can also reduce barriers like travel, scheduling challenges, and long wait times, making it easier for families to begin care sooner and stay engaged. Below, hear directly from a real family who received telehealth services at The Center for Effective Therapy

What led you to choose The Baker Center as the place to seek treatment for your child?

The Baker Center was recommended by friends and colleagues. I like that it is an evidence-based model which felt like the more effective way to get my child treatment.

How would you describe your experience with the assessment process at The Baker Center?

The assessment was great. I felt like it was very thorough and the clinician was able to get a good understanding about my child's strengths and weaknesses during the process. My child was very comfortable with the process and willing and eager to engage in the assessment process.

Before starting services, what made you feel that telehealth might not be effective for your child’s care?

I was unsure how my child would do with telehealth due to his age (8). Due to wanting to access services sooner we decided to try telehealth. My child was immediately engaged and connected to the clinician. She made the meetings fun for him and also interactive which has helped keep him engaged in treatment.

What would you say to other parents who feel hesitant about having their child participate in telehealth treatment?

I would recommend the family to take the recommendation from the clinician if they feel like telehealth would be helpful. I think it can allow families to access services easier and quicker which is a benefit of telehealth. I would encourage families to give it a try before ruling it out!
