Depression, Sadness, and Mood Changes
Children, teens, and young adults who experience depression feel sadness, lose interest in everyday activities, and are bored with life. Depression can also come with significant changes to mood.
We treat a variety of issues related to depression, sadness, or mood, including:
Major Depressive Disorder
Major Depressive Disorder is a form of depression that may manifest itself with friends, school, appetite, or sleep patterns. Depressed children are often moody, angry, unpredictable, and challenging to reach and feelings of sadness or apathy are persistent.
Persistent Depressive Disorder/Dysthymia
Persistent Depressive Disorder or Dysthymia is a case of depression that is considered chronic and lasts months or even years. Symptoms are very similar to other forms of depression, but last much longer. Children with this type of depression will typically report having more bad or "off" days than good.
Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder
Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder involves frequent and rapid changes to mood including bursts of anger, tantrums, and extreme irritability. Parents may feel like they're walking on eggshells around their child with this condition and can't seem to figure out what is triggering these outbursts.
